“The Masochist’s Assistant” by Auston Habershaw is a wonderfully amusing, clever fantasy. Set in a stodgy, prim society, famulus Georges serves an eccentric master mage until he simply cannot stand another moment of such dead-end servitude, and rebels. Habershaw’s brilliant prose and plotting make this novelette an absolute delight from start to finish.
